Donors now have the opportunity to make an apheresis donation (platelets, red cell, or plasma) at select blood drives.
Here are some simple guidelines that will help you identify the best donation for your blood type.
- Platelets (O+, A+, B+): Platelets are essential from donors with these blood types and are often used to help cancer patients. The process takes about 2 hours.
- Red Cells (A-, B-, O-, O+): Red cell donations are needed from these rare blood donors for trauma patients and those undergoing surgery. There are height and weight requirements, so please call the number below to find out if you are eligible and make an appointment. The process takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
- Plasma (AB+, AB-): AB types are the universal donors for plasma, which is often used to treat burn victims and others with serious injuries. The process takes about 1 and a half hours.
