Our Awards and Recognitions
We often work “behind the scenes” saving lives in our community. It’s not often we stand up and sing our own praises. Have a look here at the recent awards and recognitions BloodworksNW has received as we advance health and shape the future of medicine.

Awarded by: Message from Caycee Holt, Cord Blood Donor
Year: 2012
Copy of testimonial: Caycee Holt got the call on the morning of January 11. Her donated Cord Blood was a match. ‘At around 9AM, I got a call from Bloodworks Northwest. I am a platelet donor so I thought it was a just a reminder to make an appointment,’ said Caycee Holt. She couldn’t have been more wrong. BloodworksNW was calling to share the wonderful news that the Cord Blood she had donated when she had her son Chase in 2008 was a match. A 15-year-old girl with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma will likely be the beneficiary. ‘I got chills all over my body when Terry told me the news,’ said Caycee. ‘In fact, I was speechless – which is rather rare. But it’s not everyday that you get to help someone in need in such a profound way, by not really doing anything at all.’
Collection of cord blood is a completely painless procedure that does not interfere with the birth or with mother-and-child bonding following the delivery. There is no risk either to the mother or baby and cord blood collection rarely requires BloodworksNW staff to be present during the baby’s delivery. ‘It seemed like such a no-brainer at the time,’ said Caycee. ‘All I had to do was fill out some paperwork. I never noticed them collecting the Cord Blood. I won’t ever find out how that 15 year-old girl responded to her treatment. I will just hope and pray for her and encourage other expecting families to donate their cord blood. It is an amazing feeling to know that you have given someone an opportunity for life-saving stem cell treatments.’

We received a contract from HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) to compensate us for an agreed upon number of banked collections (including a sizable number of ethnic minority units). This contract was awarded subsequent to an inspection performed by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to ensure we would meet the criteria of the program and is given in recognition of our ability to produce quality products as required by the US Department of Health and Human Services. Receiving this funding will enhance our ability to reach out to minority communities and bank their donations for use by members of their communities.
